Zoho Books 1099 E-File Missing? Why, and How to File Anyway
Zoho Books 1099 e-file is locked on Free, and Zoho’s own help doc limits in-app e-filing to Financial Year 2025 forms. Here’s the 2026 workaround.

Table of Contents
Zoho Books’ Free plan doesn’t include direct IRS e-filing. Zoho’s US plan comparison, checked 16 October 2026, starts “E-File 1099 forms with IRS” on Standard at $15 per organization per month billed annually ($20 monthly). Free still lists 1099 tracking and “Prepare and file 1099s,” which Zoho’s help doc routes through a CSV export you upload to the IRS’s free IRIS portal.
Which 1099 problem are you actually stuck on?
A missing e-file option has three causes, and each has a different fix.
You’re on the Free plan
The option is absent by design. See where Zoho draws the line, then follow the filing route that needs no upgrade.
You’re on Standard or above and still can’t e-file
Go to the section on paid-plan blocks. Zoho’s own documentation limits the feature to one tax year.
You’re deciding whether to upgrade
Start with the last section. For everything else the Free plan leaves out, see our Zoho Books Free plan limits breakdown.
Zoho documents Form 1099 in its US edition help. On any other edition, this page doesn’t apply.
Where Zoho draws the 1099 line between Free and Standard

Direct e-filing starts on Standard. Zoho’s plan comparison, retrieved 16 October 2026, marks both e-file rows unavailable on Free and available on every paid plan.
| Zoho’s row label | Free | Standard and up | Who hits this |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prepare and file 1099s | Included | Included | Everyone filing |
| E-File 1099-MISC & 1099-NEC | Not included | Included | Free users wanting to file inside Zoho |
| E-File 1099 forms with IRS | Not included | Included | Same |
| Price, per organization per month, before local taxes | $0 (16 Oct 2026) | Standard: $15 billed annually, $20 billed monthly (16 Oct 2026) | Anyone weighing the upgrade |

What the Free plan includes for 1099s
On Free, “Prepare and file” means you file somewhere other than Zoho. The route Zoho documents is a CSV export, covered next.
What starts on Standard
Standard adds in-app e-filing, which Zoho’s Form 1099 help doc pairs with IRS status updates and correction forms. Neither that doc nor the pricing page lists a per-form e-filing fee as of 16 October 2026. The rest of the price picture is in our full Zoho Books pricing review.
Forms Zoho handles at all
Zoho’s help doc says it generates only Form 1099-NEC and Form 1099-MISC. Anything else needs manual entry in IRIS or a filing service.
How to file Zoho Books 1099s without upgrading

Export the CSV from Zoho and upload it to the IRS’s IRIS Taxpayer Portal. Per Zoho’s help doc retrieved 16 October 2026, this route covers 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC in the US edition, and the doc names no plan restriction.
🧾 Not Tested: We could not confirm in-app that Free shows Export for Filing. Zoho lists “Prepare and file 1099s” on Free, and its help doc places no plan limit on the export. If the button is missing on your plan, use a filing service instead; the last section covers that.
Before January: apply for an IRIS TCC
- Apply for an IRIS Transmitter Control Code through the IRS’s IRIS application for TCC. The Taxpayer Portal requires one. The IRS application page, reviewed 16 October 2026, gives no processing time, so don’t leave it to January.
Generate and export the 1099 CSV in Zoho
- In each contractor’s vendor record, open Other Details. Tick “Track payments made to this vendor for filing Form 1099” and enter their Tax ID.
- Open Form 1099 in the sidebar’s tax section. Choose Generate Form 1099, map accounts to boxes, select vendors, review, then Save and Generate.
- Click Export for Filing, confirm your organization’s Tax ID and address, and export the CSV.
Upload to the IRIS Taxpayer Portal
- Sign in to the IRIS Taxpayer Portal and upload the file. The IRS describes the portal as free and accepting up to 100 returns at a time (IRS IRIS page, retrieved 16 October 2026).
Mark as filed and send vendor copies
- Back in Zoho, use Mark as Filed, then Send Email to deliver vendor copies.
You remain responsible for each return’s accuracy. Whether a contractor needs a form is a question for your tax professional.
On Standard but still can’t e-file your 1099s?
This section covers Standard through Ultimate on the US edition.
The tax-year limit in Zoho’s own docs
Zoho’s help doc, retrieved 16 October 2026, says in-app e-filing is available only for Financial Year 2025 forms. If E-file With IRS is missing for your 2026 forms, use the CSV-and-IRIS route above.
Rejected returns and the correction form
Zoho shows each filing as Submitted, then Accepted or Rejected, with rejection reasons downloadable as a CSV. Corrections are filed one vendor at a time.
🛟 Back This Up First: Before generating a correction, open View Vendor Summary and use Download XML to keep a copy of what the IRS received, per Zoho’s help doc.
⚠️ This Costs You: Zoho warns that the IRS accepts a correction only if it carries the same organization address as the original. If you change your address after filing, the correction is rejected.
State filing: what Zoho sends and what it doesn’t
For states in the IRS Combined Federal/State Filing program, the IRS forwards your data. For other states, Zoho’s doc says you file manually. Its filing summary shows which applies to you.
âś… Do This: If a correction is rejected and the reason file doesn’t say what to change, stop. Contact Zoho US support at support.usa@zohobooks.com (Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–9 p.m. ET, per its help pages) before resubmitting.
Where Zoho’s 1099 pages and the IRS disagree
For payments made in 2026, the reporting threshold for 1099-NEC and most 1099-MISC boxes is $2,000. That figure is from the IRS’s instructions for Forms 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC, retrieved 16 October 2026.
$600 in Zoho’s table, $2,000 at the IRS
| Item | Zoho’s pages (16 Oct 2026) | IRS (16 Oct 2026) | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1099-NEC Box 1 threshold | $600 in the help-doc table | $2,000, tax years beginning after 2025 | Review “Tracked and Qualified Vendors” against $2,000 |
| When you must file | 1099 feature page FAQ: payments exceeding $600 | $2,000 or more | Same check |
| In-app e-file | Financial Year 2025 only | Not an IRS rule | Use the CSV route for 2026 forms |
| Menu name | “Taxes,” “Filing & Compliance,” “Taxes & Compliance” | — | Look for Form 1099 in the tax or compliance group |
We haven’t seen what Zoho’s app calculates for 2026. These rows record what its pages say.
Thresholds that didn’t move
The IRS keeps $600 for gross proceeds paid to an attorney (1099-MISC Box 10) and $10 for royalties.
Upgrade, use IRIS, or hand it to a filing service?
The right route depends on your filing volume and how much manual uploading you’ll accept.
When the IRIS route is enough
It fits a handful of contractors with a TCC in hand. The IRS requires e-filing at 10 or more information returns in total, per its instructions, and IRIS uploads are electronic filing.
When Standard earns its cost
Choose Standard if you want filing, status checks and corrections inside Zoho; the plan table above has the price. Our Zoho Books pricing page covers the rest.
When a filing service fits
Zoho documents imports into Tax1099 and Yearli. Both take payment at checkout. We have not verified either service’s rates.
Your January checklist
- Apply for the IRIS TCC.
- Attach W-9s and Tax IDs to every tracked vendor.
- Recheck vendors against the $2,000 line.
- Diary the deadline. The IRS sets 1099-NEC at January 31, moved to the next business day on a weekend, which by our reading makes it Monday, 1 February 2027.
If you filed through FIRE before: the IRS FIRE page lists 19 November 2026 as its last filing day. After 1 January 2027, IRIS is the only e-file system.
🧾 Not Tested: We don’t hold a paid Zoho Books US organization, and e-filing submits live returns to the IRS, so nothing here was performed in the app. Every step and label comes from Zoho’s help documentation and IRS pages, retrieved 16 October 2026.
