The people behind the reviews

The Software Scribe reviews business software for the people who have to live with the decision afterwards. Every review is written after someone here has used the product, checked its current pricing against the vendor’s own page, and written down what actually happened.

Why we started

Search for any software comparison and you will find the same page repeated a dozen times: a list copied from the vendor’s marketing site, a table of features nobody verified, and ten affiliate links. The prices are often a year out of date. The person who wrote it never opened the product.

That is a real cost to a small business. Choosing the wrong accounting or payroll tool means months of migration, retraining, and data you cannot easily get back out. We started The Software Scribe because that decision deserves better source material.

So we set two rules and we hold to them. We do not review software we have not used. And when we do not know something, we say so on the page instead of filling the gap with the vendor’s own copy.

How we work

Three documents govern everything published here. They are public so you can hold us to them.

• Testing

  Which version we used, how long we used it, whether we paid for the account, and what we score a product on. Read our software testing and review methodology.

• Editorial control

  Who writes, who reviews before publication, how claims are checked, and how vendors are kept out of the process. Read our editorial policy.

• Corrections

Who writes this

Our team of seven handles keyword research, product testing, drafting and pre-publication review. Every article carries the name of the person who wrote it, with a profile you can read.

How we pay for this

Two ways, and both are visible. We run display advertising. We also earn a commission when a reader signs up for some of the products we write about, at no extra cost to the reader.

Commission rates do not affect our verdicts or our rankings, and no vendor sees a review before it is published. Where we earn from a link, we say so at the top of the page. The full detail is in our affiliate disclosure.
